Following the previously finished section, which is the forward intention section. Here we start to talk about section two, which is called the dialectical/recovery section.
What does it mean? It’s very easy, if there is daytime, and there is night, if we have white, then we have black, male, and female, we form the world, the society, and we can have relationships, even form a family. What I’m trying to say, if there is one existence( like anything, or any feature/characteristics of something, tangible or intangible, concrete, or abstract), there will be the exact opposite one. Kung Fu, Ving Tsun kung fu is all the same; there is a kung fu system called Baji, which is a very typical one that embodies the idea of changing from one extreme position to the other.
Anyway, if we do an overview of the section, you can see that, compared to the first section, which talked about the forward direction, we start by going down first, left down, then right down, then back down, finally front down, it’s a bit strange to describe it in form of pure text, but you can see, even for forces downwards, we do all directions and they are all opposite existances to each other. Wait what? No upwards? That’s because an upward force is against nature, why? First, we stand on this earth is already an upwards force, we already have gravity and atmosphere pressure to deal with, and our opponent should be a human as well; we don’t deal with something that can fly with kung fu, so a human being, same as us, is not likely going to be right above us in fights, so we don’t do it. Therefore, the first movement is to teach us to generate force downwards, simply follow nature, relax, and drop.
That’s in terms of biomechanics, in terms of application, the left and right can be typically used for shoulder attacks. Here we can extend the topic, especially in the Baji system, their shoulder attack is the pro max version of what a human can do, but it’s not simple enough, so when we practise this, we can choose between simplicity and extreme power. We prefer to use punches and elbow strikes first, as the range of the shoulder is too short.
